Xaar and its integration subsidiary Vivid Print Innovations, have teamed-up with Imaging Technology International (iTi) to produce a digital web press that integrate Xaar's digital inkjet technology.

Xaar and its integration subsidiary Vivid Print Innovations in San Antonio (USA), has teamed-up with Imaging Technology International (iTi) of Boulder (USA) to produce a digital web press that integrate Xaar's digital inkjet technology.

The Digital Web Press (DWP) is claimed to be a robust production system developed by iTi for label converters, amongst other non-printing related sectors.

It is said to be suitable for any application that requires the short run economics of a digital system, combined with positional accuracy.

The ability to jet print inks or specialised fluids at micron accuracy on to a moving substrate makes the DWP a universal product, believes Xaar.

Xaar's chief executive officer, Ian Dinwoodie commented: "Everyone recognises iTi's capabilities.

The company has long experience of developing and integrating inkjet in to new markets; the DWP is the enabler that will accelerate the rate of adoption of Xaar's inkjet technology by new markets." Bruce Morgan, iTi's chief executive officer, said: "Inkjet is being adopted rapidly by leading manufacturers as a next generation production technology.

Inkjet enables digital workflow in traditionally analogue production processes in markets such as printable electronics and industrial packaging.

Our collaboration with Xaar and its Vivid Print subsidiary here in the US, has allowed us to provide customers with an extremely versatile digital manufacturing, labelling and packaging system in a highly accelerated time frame." The Digital Web Press collaboration integrates iTi's material handling, motion control and system design expertise, with Xaar's precision printhead technology and strong engineering support, as well as the printhead support software and hardware from Vivid Print, said Xaar.

iTi is the overall system designer and manufacturer.

Bill Leach, the managing director of Vivid Print, said: "This was a fantastic project to work on.

The market applications to be targeted were known by iTi and Xaar's printheads provided an essential part of the plan.

This kind of collaboration speeds up the path to market exponentially." First units are now being shipped and the DWP is available for demonstration at iTi in Boulder, Colorado.
