Xaar has strengthened its partnership with ink producer, Sunjet, with the approval of four of the company's Crystal range of UV-curable inks.

The piezoelectric inkjet manufacturer believes more manufacturers are recognising the benefits UV-curable technology can bring, not least of which being the quick turn-around times and ability to print directly on to a range of substrates, thereby saving time and reducing costs.

Sunjet's Crystal UFX, UNW, UOX and UGT inks were designed for use with Xaar's patented drop-on-demand (DOD) inkjet technology to optimise printhead jetting reliability.

The Crystal UFX acrylate based, and UNW white pigment based inks were developed for jetting through Xaar's XJ126 and XJ500 printheads, and are suitable for flexible and semi-flexible display and coding and marking applications, respectively, said the company.

The Crystal UOX UV-ink is approved for Xaar's Omnidot 760 GS8, offering single-pass, multi-pulse, greyscale technology for precision printing on non-porous substrates.

The Crystal UGT UV-ink is combined with the company's Omnidot 318 printhead to support printing on a variety of non-porous substrates within industrial and packaging applications.

Dr Jill Woods, ink product manager at Xaar, explained: "We are seeing inkjet technology make inroads in to new areas, such as CD printing and ID cards, and UV-ink development is one of the major factors to this success.

Our partnership with leading ink companies, like Sunjet, means we can offer comprehensive support to customers adopting this technology and ensure they can truly capitalise on the opportunities." Sunjet's range of UV-ink are claimed to provide adhesion to a range of substrates and scuff resistance, which combined with their flexible properties makes them suitable for the demanding requirements of wide format graphics, label, packaging and promotional printing applications.

Peter Saunders, Sunjet's sales and marketing manager, said: "These latest approvals are a significant step forward in our partnership with Xaar.

Together we are making real advances in achieving our aim to deliver a complete range of innovative products to support our customers - even in the most challenging and diverse applications.

We are particularly pleased to have achieved approval in the Omnidot series of printheads as they can open up applications requiring higher print quality and single pass processing.".
