To tackle the increasing problem of third-party unapproved solvent inks, Xaar is launching a new hologram scheme to authenticate inks that have been rigorously tested and approved for use with its printheads Initially covering the range of compatible solvent inks, the holograms are said to provide an easy way to identify a genuine Xaar-approved product and also carry covert security features to prevent forgery

Grayscale Printheads Go On Show At FESPA 2008
The Fespa Digital exhibition will see Xaar stage inkjet printing technology demonstrations that will show the potential of its latest 760 and 1001 grayscale printheads.
By the end of 2006 the holograms will be used on Xaar's approved solvent inks to give users confidence in the performance and quality of the ink their injet systems are using.
Xaar believes that approved inks offer long long-term cost benefits to users by reducing the likelihood of printhead failures and poor jetting performance caused by incompatible ink components, poor formulation or short shelf life.
Such failures are detrimental to printing companies in terms of increased maintenance costs and lost production due to machine downtime.
Jill Woods, ink product manager at Xaar, said: "The scheme is a continuation of our strategy to support our OEMs and ink partners in providing optimum performance to users.
At present there is no organised industry approach to promoting approved inks, but users need to know whether the ink they are putting in to their machines is guaranteed not to cause problems with the printheads under recommended conditions of use. Request a free brochure from Xaar ...
In many cases today, they do not have this assurance.".
