Phil Lawler is to be appointed as a non-executive director of Xaar with effect from June 1 and after a hand-over period he will then become non-executive chairman of the company on July 1.

Retiring from Xaar's board will be Arie Rosenfeld, the chairman of Xaar, who during his decade in office saw the company's revenues increase ten-fold.

Lawler (58) has experience of high-technology industries, having spent 18 years until 2002 at Hewlett-Packard in various senior positions, most recently as chairman and managing director of Hewlett-Packard UK and Ireland.

After leaving Hewlett-Packard, he has been a director of a number of technology companies, including several private companies where he has been introduced by venture capital investors.

He is currently non-executive chairman of EGS and between 2003 and 2005 he was non-executive chairman of Densitron Technologies.

Ian Dinwoodie, Xaar's chief executive commented: "On behalf of the whole board, I would like to thank Arie Rosenfeld for the leadership and wise counsel he has provided over the past decade, during which he contributed so much to Xaar's development in to one of the world leaders in digital inkjet technologies.

We are delighted to welcome Phil Lawler as our new chairman.

He brings a wealth of invaluable experience to Xaar gained in large and small technology businesses where managing global growth has been critical." Phil Lawler said: "I am delighted to join Xaar at a time when inkjet is only just beginning to move in to mainstream printing markets and many new potential markets are opening up.

Xaar has a strong executive management team which, I am confident, will ensure that the company benefits from these exciting opportunities.".
