Inkjet Printhead Produces 21.5km Over 5
Days
In non-stop operation over five days at FESPA, Xaar has demonstrated its latest Xaar 1001 inkjet printhead displaying high-speed, high quality and reliability.
The system comprised a four-head CMYK configuration jetting Sun Chemical UVjet inks and supported by Xaar's drive electronics Xaar's 'proof of concept' system printed at the rate of 24 metres per minute and by the end of the event the rig had produced a label strip 21.5km in length - equivalent to a half marathon

The Fespa Digital exhibition will see Xaar stage inkjet printing technology demonstrations that will show the potential of its latest 760 and 1001 grayscale printheads.
Designed for high-speed, single-pass applications, the Xaar 1001 printhead is based on the company's patented Hybrid Side-Shooter and TF Technology.
With variable drop sizes, the new printhead architecture combines piezo technology with Xaar's patented 'through-flow' design.
The Xaar 1001 is said to provide precision, a choice of selectable or variable drop sizes, is self-priming and self-cleaning with repeatability, whilst productivity with a long lifetime.
Xaar added that the demonstration rig at FESPA attracted attention from traditional and digital print producers as well as every type of manufacturer of inkjet systems for a range of commercial printing and worldwide industrial market applications.
Ian Dinwoodie, Xaar's chief executive officer, said: "We showed unequivocally that the Xaar 1001 is a revolutionary piezo inkjet printhead capable of delivering the quality required for demanding label and commercial printing applications where quality, speed and reliability are paramount requirements.
You can expect to see Xaar 1001 leading the way for a diverse range of printing applications in the future." PAT Technology Systems' Varstar sheet-fed digital UV Coater finishing system is the first system to implement Xaar's 1001 printhead.
The result is claimed to be the world's first true commercial digital varnishing coater producing 'on the fly' flood and spot coating, textures and special effects in a single pass from a digital graphics file.
According to Xaar, Varstar produces effects that were previously impossible, or not cost-effective using traditional processes.
