Xaar Appoints New R and D Director - Temple Leaves
Ramon Borrell has been appointed research and development director, with a seat on the board at UK inkjet printhead developer Xaar.
Borrell will join the Cambridge (UK) company on August 27.
Steve Temple, currently the company's technical director, will step down from the board and from full-time employment with Xaar at the end of September but will continue to advise the company as a consultant.
He will work with Borrell over the balance of this year to ensure the hand-over.
A Spanish citizen, Borrell (43) will make the move from Hewlett-Packard (HP) where he has worked since 1994.
Most recently he was senior new product development manager within HP's Large Format Printing Division, which develops large format inkjet printing machines for sale worldwide.
Before that he was director of technology strategy and research and development chief product architect for that division.
He is a member of the Imaging Science and Technology Society, where he was elected as vice president and secretary of the board in 2006.
Steve Temple has been with Xaar since its inception in 1990 and has been the principal architect of its inkjet technology, said the company.
Under his technical leadership, Xaar said it has registered 90 patents.
More recently he focused his attention on establishing a technology 'roadmap' to enable Xaar to widen its range of potential markets and he is the inventor of Xaar's Platform 3 product, which was launched earlier this year.
Ian Dinwoodie, Xaar's chief executive commented: "I would like to express our warmest thanks to Steve Temple for the huge contribution he has made to Xaar since joining the company at its inception in 1990.
His vision, expertise and tireless leadership have given us a technology that is second to none in the world of inkjet printing and helped to establish Cambridge as a world centre of excellence for all things inkjet related.
We wish him and his family every success in his next venture.
He continued: "We are pleased to welcome Ramon Borrell to Xaar and him and his family to the UK.
He has extensive knowledge of inkjet technology and the marketplace and has already demonstrated his ability to lead a sizeable technology development group in a major global enterprise.
We look forward to his leadership as we continue to convert technology inventions in to commercial products.
