Inkjet Printhead For Narrow Web Label Printing

A Xaar product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Nov 8, 2007

Xaar's newest inkjet printhead, the 1001, for high-speed narrow web label printing will be seen on stand J20 at Labelexpo Asia, which will run from November 28 - 30 in Shanghai.

The company commented that this year several leading label printer manufacturers have chosen to integrate its inkjet printheads in their UV narrow web digital systems to print labels quickly.

The 1001 printhead made its label printing debut at Labelexpo Europe in September in the Caslon modular print module developed by FFEI for Nilpeter.

In addition, Sun Chemical's new Solarjet and EFI's Jetrion 4000 systems both rely on Xaar printheads to provide label printing performance, added the company.

The 1001 printhead is a variable drop (greyscale) product featuring Xaar's patented Hybrid Side-Shooter platform with TF Technology.

The patented systems combine to produce variable drop sizes essential for fine detail and readable small text, as well as smooth tones reliably and consistently in single-pass applications, said Xaar.

In addition to the 1001 printhead, Xaar will also present at Labelexpo Asia its full range of printheads designed to enable manufacturers and integrators to match the best model for their specific needs, it said.

The company's Xaardot (Drop Optimisation Technology) capability is claimed to enable the production of variable-sized drops.

Xaardot is also said to give users the ability to select drop size, or resolution, depending upon the application, image quality and substrate in use.

Fine drops are important for close viewing, such as labels, whilst larger droplets are suitable for distance viewing, such as large format displays, added the company.

Wangwei, the managing director of Xaar Asia Pacific, explained: "The trend towards limited-run special offers, short-term marketing initiatives and multiple language variants are driving label and packaging manufacturers to look for alternative production methods.

Inkjet printing enables shorter runs to be produced cost-effectively and can be integrated in to conventional flexo press lines if required to add personalisation and versioning capabilities.

Using high quality UV inkjet, printers can now harness lower running costs, superior production capabilities and have the flexibility of inkjet technology for applications such as labels, tags, forms and tickets." Xaar will also stage a seminar that will explore the potential of the 1001 printhead during Labelexpo Asia, on November 28.
