Xaar Printheads In Colour UV Inkjet
Label Printers

Xaar's 1001 piezoelectric printheads are to be used in EFI-Jetrion's 4000 Series full-colour UV label printers.

The Jetrion 4000 Series of UV inkjet printers are claimed to provide narrow web converters a full-colour alternative to toner-based printers By incorporating Xaar's inkjet technology in to the Jetrion 4000 series printers, converters will benefit from added flexibility and cost-effectiveness for applications, such as labels, tags, forms and tickets on a variety of substrates, said the company

Available in web widths of 5.5" (139mm) or 8.3" (210mm) the Jetrion 4000 Series printer uses eight, or 12 Xaar 1001 heads.

As part of the agreement with Jetrion, Xaar are qualifying EFI-Jetrion's range of UV inks for use with the 1001 printhead to ensure that a functional, integrated system is available.

The integration of Xaar's technology in to the digital printers highlights Xaar's growing presence in the digital label printing industry, claimed the company.

Xaar said that its combination of greyscale (dynamically variable drops) and its patented Hybrid Side-Shooter platform with TF Technology is suitable for single-pass printing to produce fine details, smooth tones and readable text.

Xaar-enabled Jetrion 4000 digital label printers are available immediately for customer shipments and the company expects them to be available in production quantities by the second quarter of this year.

Dr Kenneth Stack, EFI-Jetrion's vice president and general manager, said: "We chose the Xaar 1001 head because we needed a printhead that offered the high reliability required for web applications.

With Xaar's dynamically variable drop size capability, the 1001 printhead means the Jetrion's 4000 Series can take full advantage of that company's ink technology and EFI's Fiery XF colour management systems." Chris Lynn, vice president of sales and marketing of Xaar's US subsidiary, explained: "We're delighted to formalise our long-standing relationship with EFI-Jetrion through this agreement and excited about the growing prospects for use of our inkjet technology in narrow web digital printing.
