New 1,200dpi Colour Digital Printer At Drupa 2008
The Xeikon 8000 will be seen for the first time at Drupa 2008, exhibiting its claimed true 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) production at four bits per spot at twice the speed of systems from competitors.
The company claimed that the 8000 has been developed to optimise print productivity and to provide fast, cost-effective and eco-friendly printing without compromising on quality.
Xeikon said that the web-fed 8000 prints full colour, multi-page documents at a top speed of 230 A4 (244 letter- size) pages per minute, or 13,800 A4 (14,640 letter-size) pages per hour.
Its claimed up-time of 90 per cent is said to enable duty cycles of 8.5 million A4 pages per month.
The Xeikon 8000's LED-based imaging head features true 1,200dpi resolution and 1,200dpi x 3,600dpi addresses with variable dot density, generating image quality with sharp and crisp details, high definition and smooth tone transitions, claimed the company.
The imaging technology makes use of the Pericles screening library, allowing screen rulings up to 240 lines per inch (lpi) to further optimise overall image quality.
The company added that two in-line densitometers and process algorithms provide uniform and accurate colours and registration for colour consistency from job to job and from press to press.
Xeikon's Productivity Adapted (PA) toner also supports print quality at high speeds.
Said to be capable of handling scalable printing substrates widths up to 512mm (20.15") the Xeikon 8000 offers a 504mm (19.84") imaging width, allowing two-up A4 and three-up A5 printing on a range of print media with weights ranging from 40gsm to 350gsm (27lb text to 122lb cover) allowing for a new range of applications.
Meanwhile, Xeikon's patented One-Pass Duplex technology is claimed to allow for simultaneous double-sided printing, ensuring perfect front-to-back registration and data integrity.
The 8000 is equipped with the latest Xeikon X-800 digital front-end.
Modular and based on open standards, it is said to enable the implementation of fully-automated workflows in any production operation.
Its scalability makes it suitable for variable data production, whilst the optional IPDS controller also makes the 8000 in to a system for transactional and trans-promotional printing, producing personalised, full-colour documents at rated engine speed.
The Xeikon 8000 is distributed and supported worldwide by Punch Graphix subsidiaries, as well as through a network of distributors.
Paul Willems, chief marketing officer at Punch Graphix, said: "The Xeikon 8000 responds to the growing demand for high productivity combined with uncompromising print quality, not only in the established commercial printing and direct marketing segments but also in the book publishing industry and in the rapidly-growing transpromo market, where colour printing is now the norm." He added: "In general, its advantages in terms of quality, speed, productivity and cost, facilitate the increasing conversion from offset printing to digital production.
The initial reactions from the market are very positive and a number of orders have already been placed, both by existing customers and new users.".
