Ipex 2010 to feature Xeikon 8000 and QA toners

Xeikon will introduce at Ipex 2010 the upgraded Xeikon 8000 for the commercial- and document-printing markets.

Xeikon will also present two versions of its new Quadrupled Adapted toners: the Industrial (QA-I) and the Productivity (QA-P) versions.

The Quadrupled Adapted products are shape-modified polyester toners that result in high image qualities and levels of eco-friendliness.

Xeikon developed QA-I toner for the Xeikon 3000 printer range, used in the packaging and labelling markets.

It provides advances in image quality, light fastness, food safety and ecological benefits.

The QA-Productivity or QA-P toner is suitable for the document printing and book-printing markets, offering benefits in fusing, increased colour gamut and speed.

Also on show at Ipex 2010 will be the Xeikon 8000 printer, which has been upgraded to provide speeds of up to 260 pages a minute (19 metres per minute).

Printers must be upgraded to the new Xeikon QA-P toner to achieve these speeds on substrates up to 80gsm with unlimited toner coverage.

Current Xeikon 8000 engines are field upgradeable to this capability.

For the document and commercial printing markets, QA-P toner provides an increased colour gamut and enables an increased engine speed for the Xeikon 8000.

All Xeikon digital printing engines take advantage of Xeikon's X-800 digital front-end.

The X-800 is based on open standards and can be integrated into any production environment.

Its modular set-up allows users to manage different aspects of production in the most efficient manner.

Pre-press functions, such as impositions and colour management, can be performed in the pre-press environment, allowing the press operator to focus on print quality.

This contributes to higher press throughput and increased productivity on Xeikon presses.

Danny Mertens, business-development manager for document printing at Xeikon, said: 'Document-printing operations can now handle high-volume peak productions more easily.

'With the speed increase, they can even manage one million images per day if they line up three Xeikon 8000 presses supervised by one dedicated operator.

'This greatly improves production capacity and significantly reduces costs,' he added.

At Ipex 2010, Xeikon will also show new capabilities for IPDS workflow.

Jeroen Van Bauwel, Xeikon's product manager for digital front-end, said: 'The fifth colour that was already available for our graphic arts customers can now also be driven by IPDS workflows.

'The fifth colour station can be used for closely matching some specific custom or Pantone colours, and for security toner.

'These capabilities will significantly enhance the production of transactional and transpromotional documents, as well as direct mail.

'Adding the fifth colour for IPDS workflows has made our customers' operations much more competitive.

'It allows them to compete with other technologies, including inkjet print, by producing superior quality and flexibility, especially in the transactional document market,' he finished.
