Ipex 2006 Sees Digital Asset Developments

Xinet has launched its new Uploader tool and an upgrade to the company's Webnative asset management software.
At Ipex 2006 Xinet will demonstrate Webnative on stand B-56 in hall 6 with Xinet's UK integrator Turning Point Technologies.
At the show, Xinet will also unveil its new release and a new white paper on 'How to Calculate ROI for DAM Systems in an Advertising Agency', written by Ron Roszkiewiczt.
The Webnative metadata-driven digital asset management (DAM) and PDF workflow system is used by Macy's, Sunbeam, Ogilvy and Mather, Time, Sports Illustrated, McCann Erickson and Quebecor World Premedia.
Uploader is a stand-alone application that is claimed to let vendors and contractors transmit photography, artwork and other material to a client's Xinet Webnative or Webnative Venture database.
It does so by allowing the drag and drop of files on to a desktop icon.
The company said that Uploader requires vendors and contractors to enter metadata details before uploading files.
The Webnative Venture database then automatically ingests the metadata and triggers e-mail notifications and other actions to streamline the workflow.
Other new features of Webnative Version 8 include interactive PDF, where users can now review digital assets and the metadata associated with them by clicking directly on the images embedded in Webnative PDFs.
Interactive PDFs are sais to make it easy to re-use images in production because clicking on a PDF reveals information about the source, original format and previous uses of a graphic.
Webnative now makes web previews from RAW camera files from 80 digital camera backs, including Canon, Kodak, Minolta, Fuji and Nikon models.
Users can see previews and custom-order the files.
Photographers can submit RAW format files to their clients and the RAW files can be catalogued on their own Webnative servers, added Xinet.
Building on Xinet's versioning tools for Photoshop, Xinet now offers a companion versioning tool that brings the same functions for Illustrator CS and CS2 workflows.
The new versioning tool allows designers to keep track of rounds of approved revisions, enables art directors to review work in progress and lets clients to view multiple versions of artwork in the context of a document.
That is said to be valuable for packaging workflows.
Jd Michaels, the vice president director of print services at BBDO New York, said: "This is why companies like BBDO choose Xinet's Webnative for digital asset management rather than most systems available on the market.
Each upgrade of Webnative gives you smart ways to shave time from your production cycle." Xinet's chief executive officer, Scott Seebass, commented: "Working closely for 15 years with the world's biggest advertising agencies, retailers and printers guides every new feature we design.
The tools in Webnative 8 help our customers be more creative, whilst squeezing the most billable hours out of a workday.".
