Xitron Launches Xenith Extreme Workflow With JDF

A Xitron product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team May 14, 2004

Xitron has launched the new 6.0 version of Xenith Extreme.

Xitron has launched the new 6.0 version of Xenith Extreme.

Xenith Extreme is an Adobe Extreme compliant workflow with tools including PDF creation, certified PDF, built-in pre-flight, in-RIP trapping, NORM and ROOM proofing, post-Rip imposition, archiving and unlimited Mac and PC clients.

New to this version is JDF support and a redesigned client interface, native OS X support and JDF based imposition.

New proofing capabilities are claimed to allow users to control ink density and ink-curves as well as LAB colour look-up for spot colours.

Xitron's JDF strategy is currently being developed within the Xenith Extreme range of workflow products, said the company.

The JDF technology will be used in many areas of Xitron's products that are being announced at Drupa.

New products will be compatible with current Xitron systems, therefore protecting the investment of the company's users it believes.

Specific implementations with Xenith Extreme will include support for JDF imposition schemes within the Xenith workflow.

That gives maximum flexibility for addressing issues like choosing which press to use at the back end of the pre-press workflow and that job screening and colour management can be applied at the last minute to work with busy press schedules.

Xitron claims that JDF jobs coming into the Xenith workflow will contain a range of information about the job, such as a unique job identity and customer information.

That JDF information is supplemented with additional data obtained from the pre-press workflow system, and communicated to the later stages of print production.

The major benefit of such automation, said Xitron is to reduce the need to re-key information at different stages of the workflow.

Xitron added that one area where CIP4 and PPF were adopted well was in communicating the press ink setting information to the press control system.

The JDF press control option would extend this functionality in providing much more than just ink setting information, and will minimise press make ready time.

Xenith Extreme is also claimed to offer optional Dynagram imposition integrated into the workflow using JDF technology.

The JDF tools allow Dynagram's Dynastrip to communicate information to the workflow such as imposition layout, marks and pagination.

In addition, Xenith Extreme can also pass data from Dynastrip downstream to CIP4 compatible presses and finishing equipment.

"Our goal with JDF is to provide practical solutions which add real benefit to customers.

Our JDF product will provide real cost, automation or productivity benefit to a customer," explained Jeffrey Nelson, product manger for Xitron.
