Xitron's Navigator 7.0 for Windows, the latest release of its RIP, based on Harlequin RIP technology, is now being despatched.

Xitron's Navigator 7.0 for Windows, the latest release of its RIP, based on Harlequin RIP technology, is now being despatched.

Navigator 7.0 is said to provide significant enhancements over previous versions of the Navigator RIP, including native support for PDF 1.5 files, PDF/X-1a:2003 and PDF/X3:2003 formats.

New features include a font emulation that simulates portions of missing fonts in PDF files.

Navigator 7.0 will make a typographically acceptable match to missing fonts with no text overflow and with appropriate character spacing, weight and width, said the company.

In addition to the product enhancements, Navigator 7.0 also offers new options including a JDF Enabler module and in-RIP Simple Imposition designed for the two-up market.

R Patrick French, the vice president of sales and marketing at Xitron, said: "Customers in the two-up market have been searching for an automated, cost-effective imposition product.

Navigator 7.0 with Simple Imposition meets the needs of those users by providing an in-RIP requiring very little operator intervention.

Priced under $1,000, we feel this option will become standard in this market segment." The JDF Enabler supports the JDF1.2 specification, including support for TIFF files as either a file format or reference file.

Navigator 7.0 is JDF-ready and the optional JDF Enabler will be available for customer shipments later in 2005.
