Xitron has released Navigator 7.0 RIP for Mac OS X.

Navigator 7.0 is claimed to provide enhancements over previous versions of the Navigator RIP.

It includes native support for PDF 1.5 files, PDF/X-1a:2003 and PDF/X3:2003 formats.

New features include font emulation that simulates portions of missing fonts in PDF files.

Navigator 7.0 will make a typographically acceptable match to missing fonts with no text overflow and with appropriate character spacing, weight, and width, said Xitron.

In addition to the product enhancements, Navigator 7.0 also offers new options including an in-RIP 'simple imposition' designed for the two-up marketplace and proofing plug-ins to support the K3 family of Epson printers including the 4800, 7800 and 9800.

The new proofing VSD plug-ins are SWOP certified and include colour-managed profiles.

R Patrick French, vice president of sales and marketing at Xitron, said: "Two-up customers have been searching for an automated, cost-effective imposition product.

Navigator 7.0 with simple imposition meets the needs of these users by providing an in-RIP system requiring very little operator intervention.

Priced under US$1,000, we feel this option will become standard in this market segment.".
