Paper weights from17lb - 72lb bond are also supported by the Prism.
The Prism's trays one to four support 17lb - 57.5lb bond (64-216 gsm); Multi-purpose tray supports 17lb -72lb bond (64gsm-270gsm) whilst the duplex trays support 20lb - 32lb bond (75gsm - 120 gsm).
Powering the Xitron Prism is the Navigator Select GPS Prism Controller with an integrated workflow.
Based on the Harlequin-core RIP technology from Global Graphics Software, the controller provides a commercial printer quality RIP and workflow system, said Xitron.
R Patrick French, Xitron's vice president of sales and marketing, commented: "Commercial printers need predictable colour and screening across a variety of output devices.
OKI Printing Solutions was able to provide a custom engine with which we could incorporate our RIP and workflow technology, resulting in a complete digital press system for our customers." Rich Egert, general manager of Oki Data Americas' Strategic Business Relationships Group, added: "We are pleased that Xitron chose OKI Printing Solutions to provide the custom LED engine for Prism.
Xitron's long-term expertise in the graphic arts industry makes it a perfect partner as Oki Data Americas continues to expand in to new market segments." Ralph Lloyd, Global Graphics' vice president of product marketing, added: "Global Graphics has been looking at ways to make digital print more accessible to those printers who want to introduce a digital press in to their shop alongside their analogue, computer to plate and direct image press equipment.
The Harlequin RIP is the ideal RIPing engine for a device like the Xitron Prism because of its track record as a proven print engine, not only in the analogue world but also for a wide variety of digital devices." The hybrid workflow design is claimed to allow up to three Prism units to be run from a single Prism Controller offering greater flexibility and affordability than similar systems on the market.
The Prism Controller may become the heart of a pre-press department by upgrading it to a full Navigator GPS capable of driving more than 250 different devices.
Printers with greater production volume may integrate one or more Prism controllers in to their Navigator GPS workflow with RIP Manager 3.1, said Xitron.
RIP Manager features include an integrated viewer for desktop soft-proofing, powerful job management control, ability to create automated workflow steps to reduce errors associated with manual intervention from operators and a PDF option that provides PDF creation and pre-flighting as automated steps in a workflow.
Pre-flighting is handled with the Enfocus library built in to the RIP Manager PDF option.
