System Allows Any Printer To Offer On Demand Print

A Xante Corporation product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Sep 14, 2007

The new OpenRIP Fastcards from Xante are claimed to provide any printer with the ability to offer 'while you wait' on-demand printing.

It is claimed that OpenRIP Fastcards are the first product built on combined Xante and RIPit technology.

OpenRIP Fastcards is said to be the first automated, integrated printing system to provide high resolution, full-colour prints on heavy stock on a desktop-sized Xante OpenRIP Fastcards system.

The product combines the Xante Ilumina four-colour digital press, the OpenRIP Symphony workflow system, a flatbed scanner and Xante's Advancedscan scanning and imposition technology in a system designed for rapid production of business card (or similar) output, said Xante.

The integrated system will allow print shops to compete with the fastest turn-around and highest quality for business cards, postcards, table tent cards and banners, added Xante.

From scanning to processing output, the typical card job takes only a few minutes, allowing printing firms to offer 'while you wait' materials on stock up to 24 point.

Wayne Wasulko, senior vice president for RIP Technology at Xante, whose team spearheaded the product's development, explained: "With OpenRIP Fastcards our design team made the whole process so easy that anyone in a user's organisation can produce excellent results in a very short period of time.

Businesses that print in-house will have an unprecedented opportunity to support communications and especially sales requirements with truly on-demand printing, with no compromise." OpenRIP Fastcards automated software is claimed to allow printers to handle complex digital files and configure them to suit a variety of production and bindery needs.

Xante said that anyone can set up one-sided or two-sided, single-colour or multi-colour jobs (with or without bleeds) for a variety of stock sizes and weights.

Sending digital files (PS, EPS, PDF, and TIFF files) directly to OpenRIP Fastcards from networked Mac or Windows workstations is completely automated.

In addition, OpenRIP Fastcards streamlines pre-press production with provision for ganging the same job or multiple jobs together, applying independent quantities to each and specifying the desired page size for output, said Xante.

OpenRIP Fastcards automatically applies the correct step-and-repeat for the most efficient use of stock and with set-up complete, users have the option to print a sample for review or customer approval.

The OpenRIP Fastcards software is an integrated feature option of Xante's OpenRIP Symphony, an Adobe PostScript 3 RIP that offers the Adobe PDF Print Engine and a workflow designed to increase pre-press production and reduce human error.
