Graphics of the Americas-Xplor, the second largest US annual international graphic communications exhibition conference and Reed Business Information are staging a joint promotion.

Graphics of the Americas-Xplor, the second largest US annual international graphic communications exhibition conference and Reed Business Information are staging a joint promotion to be held at the show.

From March 2 - 4 at the Miami Beach Convention Centre, visitors touring the on demand book making and workflow feature will be automatically entered in to a draw for a complete book making system, including printer, perfect binding system, electric creaser and paper cutter (said to be worth US$17,000).

The combined system will allow the winner to create and offer full-colour, laminated, perfect bound books on demand, said Xplor.

Chris Price, vice president and general manager of Graphics of the Americas, said: "On demand book making offers a number of advantages to publishers over traditional offset-based publishing, including improved time to market, reduced inventory demands and minimised risks for prototypes or test marketing.

In addition, on demand book making has a number of applications, including database custom publishing, keep-in-print programmes, short-run publishing, educational courseware and pre-publication copies." Supporting the promotion will be Exactbind on stand 188, which will donate a perfect binding system.

For the first time shown in the USA, The PBS-2000 tabletop perfect binder is said to make soft and hard cover books.

It incorporates the same processes that professional book binderies use, such as spine roughening, hot-melt adhesive and clamping.

Meanwhile, Morgana on stand 336 will donate an electric creaser.

The semi-automatic Electro-Creaser is claimed to be suitable for printers that need something faster than a manual creaser, such as the Morgana Docu-Crease, but they cannot justify the cost of a fully-automated machine, such as the Autocreaser.

Made in the UK, the Electro-Creaser is said to be designed for the smaller printer or in-plant operations.

A tabletop unit, it is said to be fast to set-up and simple to operate.

Fujifilm Graphic Systems, on stand 214 will donate a Xerox Phaser 7760 printer that is said to have features and software that allow control of output colour with consistent colour accuracy, sharp images and crisp text.

In addition, Challenge Machinery, on stand 341 will donate a Spartan 150 SA paper cutter.

A 15-inch tabletop machine perfect for the copy centre, in-plant operation and on-demand printing environment.

The promotion also includes free exhibition passes and the draw will take place on March 4 after the show at Graphics of the Americas 2007.
