Graphics of the Americas, the US international graphic communications exhibition and Xplor International have expanded their focus on advertising, creative and design.

Graphics of the Americas, the US international graphic communications exhibition and Xplor International, the worldwide electronic document systems association and the Creative Suite Conference have expanded their focus on advertising, creative and design.

For 2007, Graphics of the Americas and Xplor have worked closely together to provide a focused exhibition and conference programme targeted at the growing creative professional audience that attends the annual international event, said Xplor.

For the first time, Substrate central joins the design city pavilion that will feature an area for paper and substrate manufacturers, distributors, dealers and suppliers.

Substrate central will also host a variety of standard and individual printing materials, including traditional papers and security substrates up to RFID labels.

Exhibitors to date include Case Paper, Glatfelter, Industrial Paperela, Kobax Papers, Mac Papers, Morgan Price, Pedro Ramirez Paper, Smart Papers, Unisource Fanapel Celulosa and Xpedx, for example.

Substrate central, sponsored by Adobe and Create Magazine, will show visitors the ability to source new premium papers, discount lots, digital papers, wide format substrates and plastic, as well as source offset papers that are said to be competitively priced.

Situated next to substrate central and now in its fourth year, the design city pavilion is projected to attract 5,000 print specificers and will feature the Adobe theatre with product demonstrations from Adobe, as well as providers of colour management systems, variable data printing and online job submission.

Together with exhibitors that include Adobe, Quark Corel, Human Eyes and Istockphoto.com, as well as others, attendees will be able to see the latest products and technology, including software, digital imaging, stock photography, digital cameras, fonts and clip art vendors, as well as software including colour management, hardware, pre-press, workflow and proofing systems.

Xplor said that together, design city and substrate central will house over 100 exhibitors covering 34,000 square feet of the Miami Beach Convention Centre, adding to the event's 1,300 stands.

In conjunction with Graphics of the Americas, Xplor International has assembled an educational programme specifically for the creative, pre-press and printing professions.

Included in Xplor's conference program for 2007 are sessions covering digital pre-press - OS X ipgrade, installation, use, management tips and tricks, and digital pre-press - preparing files for trouble-free PostScript printing and Photoshop for pre-press - pre-press specific Photoshop topics, techniques and tips and taught by Taz Tally PhD, author and pre-press expert.

In addition and for the first time, Xplor's conference will also feature the PDF University that will include courses on document publishing, pre-press production, PDF/X in daily production, a workshop for advanced PDF users and tutorial on reliable print publishing workflow.

The event will also feature The Creative Suite Conference, organised by Barry Anderson and featuring 25 sessions on Photoshop, Illustrator, Incopy, InDesign, Acrobat, Bridge, Golive and Versioncue.

Together, both Graphics of the Americas and Xplor have developed the co-located event for printers, high-volume variable data, creative and IT personnel.
