Software Deal Enables XPS File Format Support

A XPS product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Feb 25, 2008

NiXPS has agreed with Enfocus and Adam to include its technology in their products to incorporate support for Microsoft's XPS file format in to companies' document and printing workflow systems.

The deal with NiXPS, which will be exhibiting its products on stand XPS6 at the On Demand exhibition in Boston (USA) from March 3 - 6, will see Enfocus integrate NiXPS technology to incorporate XPS systems in selected future products.

Known because of its Acrobat plug-in Pitstop Professional for PDF editing and quality control, NiXPS said that Enfocus will now broaden its horizons to include XPS support as a part of its product development.

That will enable users of the XPS format to benefit from similar pre-flighting and correction capabilities Enfocus has developed for PDF, added the company.

Yves de Vieger, an associate director of sales at Enfocus, said: "Whilst PDF still is the de facto standard for document exchange in the graphic arts industry, we are increasingly getting customer demand to take a look at Microsoft's XPS.

As the adoption of the latest version of Microsoft's operating system, Windows Vista, grows an increasing amount of people will start producing XPS documents.

As in the past with PDF, we consider it our task to offer the graphic arts community a system to output those files without errors." According to NiXPS, the partnership with Adam Software will provide a different perspective on the implementation of NiXPS technology.

Adam will present the NiXPS library to its customers to support XPS as a document format in its digital asset management system, which will able Adam Software's users to access and index content in an XPS file.

Adam's chief executive officer, Pieter Casneuf, commented: "We have a proven proactive and open approach to new technology and file formats and the Adam provider model is the result of it.

We have a close integration with MS Office, hence including full XPS support became obvious.

The NiXPS library provides us with the possibility to deal with all the different aspects of this integration." NiXPS Library is a C++ library that is claimed to allow software publishers to deploy their own native XPS applications, or add XPS viewing, editing, conversion or variable data functions to their own applications.

Said to be truly cross-platform, it enables developers to deploy XPS functions with a quick time to market, said the company.

Managing director of NiXPS, Nick De Roeck, explained: "Both partnerships illustrate the growing momentum for XPS and the strong interest in our systems.

Our highly efficient, cross-platform XPS library presents fantastic opportunities for customers to embrace XPS in their products now.

Our interactive XPS applications, NiXPS View and NiXPS Edit, form a compelling platform to provide exciting XPS functions to the desktop.".
