The new Kodak Veris digital proofer is equipped with an in-line spectrophotometer from X-Rite that is claimed to improve colour precision and user convenience.

Introduced at Ipex 2006, the new Veris digital proofer enhances proof production, productivity, and colour accuracy for four-up contract proofing, said X-Rite.

Based on Kodak-developed multi-drop array imaging, the Veris proofer places extremely small and mono-sized ink droplets at 1,500 dots per inch (dpi) x 1,500dpi.

for exact colour, fine text, shadows, and highlight details at production speeds, said the company.

The system includes the Veris In-line Spectrophotometer developed in collaboration with X-Rite.

Embedded in the Veris proofer, X-Rite's in-line spectrophotometer is said to improve precision by calibrating colour automatically, thereby saving time and eliminating the errors associated with manual colour checks using an external device.

"X-Rite has been a partner of Kodak in various proofing applications since the early 1090s," said Tom Dlugos, X-Rite's worldwide sales director.

"We have worked hand in hand with the Kodak organisation to integrate a new spectral platform that sharply improves colour accuracy.

Chris LaFontaine, X-Rite's graphic arts product manager, commented: "Essentially what we've done is take steps away from the process by embedding an integrated spectrophotometer.

The Veris digital proofer had always been an extremely stable device.

Now, it delivers premium quality proofs even more consistently because we've automated the colour-measurement process.

The next generation Veris digital proofer serves as a mid-range solution for prepress professionals that need more color fidelity but don't require stringent digital halftone dot proofs.

Besides the in-line spectrophotometer, the Veris digital proofer also includes an improved gamut ink set, proofing media and optimised software.

In addition, the Veris digital proofer supports the established certified process for proofing and the new certified process for colour confirmation.

The certified process for colour confirmation checks that the proof was generated according to in-house or industry colour standards, helping press operators and print buyers communicate and confirm colour expectations before going to press.

The Veris In-line Spectrophotometer is said to automate the certified process for colour confirmation, making it simple to deliver proofs with higher levels of accuracy.
