Alphagraphics in Nottingham bought a Docucolor 6060 digital colour press and a Docutech 6135 to increase production by 40 per cent.
The Alphagraphics network is a provider of print-related and digital publishing services and since 2001 it has been rapidly expanding, particularly in the North East where two new sites have recently been added.
This growth involved a change of strategy including a review and upgrade of its current printing equipment.

Xerox has unveiled the first results of a $400m investment to create the next-generation platform for black-and-white digital production printers, the Xerox DocuTech 100 and DocuTech 120 Copier/Printe
Alphagraphics looked at other suppliers but concluded that Xerox offered the best quality products at a competitive price to help boost productivity.
Having used Xerox equipment for 10 years, the new equipment consolidates its strong, long-standing relationship said Xerox.
"We felt comfortable using Xerox again.
We find Xerox printers provide the most consistent quality and we would have struggled to expand and keep up with customer demand without them," said Sean Costigan, managing director of five AlphaGraphics sites located throughout the North East.
The North East sites retain its existing Docucolor 3535, Docucolor 2060 digital colour presses and Docucolor 12 printer and has added the Docucolor 6060 and Docucolor 2045 presses to keep up with the growing colour market.
For its mono printers a third Docutech 6135 Production Publisher allows Alphagraphics to print using variable data.
The Xerox equipment also contains an e-commerce platform for quick proofing in real time and in digital format, to produce quality images such as photographs on business cards said Xerox.
"All our printers in the North East are networked so that one site can transfer work to another site to carry out surplus print jobs at busy times.
For our customers it feels like business as usual but for us we benefit by taking on more work with a quicker turnaround for some jobs, sometimes within 24 hours in Stockton," commented Costigan.
The Nottingham site purchased a new Docutech 6135 and a Docucolor 6060 to enable higher productivity and lower the cost-base.
"We recognised that the colour market was changing fast.
We needed the Docutech 6135 because it can cope with larger files and maintain a higher RIPing speed.
The Docucolor 6060 has allowed our volume of prints to increase by 40 per cent because of improved productivity," said Jeremy Thompson-Jewitt, managing director of Alphagraphics in Nottingham.
Peter Taylor, Xerox director of graphic arts said: "Xerox has always been committed to allowing customers to make the most of their printing services, and that includes upgrades of their Xerox equipment.
The Alphagraphics network is large and diverse, therefore the numerous sites required different printers.
They needed printers that were fast, reliable and could cope with a heavy workload and from a long history using Xerox equipment the company knew we could achieve this." The Alphagraphics network prints using variable data including promotional materials, operational and training manuals, presentation materials, brochures, multipage work, catalogues and direct mail prints.
