Xerox is strengthening its digital colour printing portfolio with the new Docucolor 7000 digital press, which gives Xerox customers an option in the 70-page-per-minute speed segment, said the company.

The Docucolor 7000 is said to be suitable for customers entering the digital colour market or those looking to increase productivity, reliability and image quality compared to competing products.

The new press extends Xerox's line of high-end production colour products that operate between 45 pages per minute (ppm) and 110ppm, believes the company.

Xerox added that it has sold more than 12,000 Docucolor systems since their introduction in 2000.

Anoush Dowlatshahi-Gordon, director and general manager for the production systems group at Xerox UK, said: "The Docucolor 7000 brings added depth to our digital colour portfolio, enabling us to serve an ever-wider variety of customers and stay with them as their business and volume grow.

Our digital colour family offers customers the right technology choice, supported by the right workflow and business support tools for their budget and job requirements." The Docucolor 7000 features a claimed 2400 dots per inch (dpi) x 2400dpi x 1dpi resolution.

The press also handles a variety of paper sizes and types so it can support a wide range of applications and environments, such as print-on-demand, web-submission print processes, book publishing and personalised marketing.

By offering three colour server options - the workstations that process incoming print files and drive the digital press - the Docucolor 7000 is said to be able to integrate with customers' existing workflow.

Printing firms can choose the Xerox Freeflow DocuSP controller or a colour server from Creo.
