The Epic Cti-635, from Epic International, is a new in-line coater attached to the Xerox iGen3 110 digital press to give documents a glossy or matte finish, improving their appearance and durability.

The Epic Cti-635, from Epic International, is a new in-line coater attached to the Xerox iGen3 110 digital press that is said to give documents a glossy or matte finish, improving their appearance and durability.

The coating is also claimed to help preserve and protect documents such as postcards, menus, book covers, manuals and packaging.

Unlike competing products, the Xerox coater is in-line and it allows customers to maintain an all-digital workflow, ushering documents through each stage of the printing process.

When documents exit the iGen3 press, they are coated, treated with ultra-violet light and deposited in a bin, added the company.

Steven Schnoll, the managing director of Schnoll Media Consulting, commented: "By offering the UV coating process in-line, Xerox has developed a way for its customers to add value to the documents they produce whilst maintaining maximum productivity." The entire process is automated, which is claimed to help users to get more print jobs done quickly.

The Xerox in-line coater also operates as fast as the iGen3 press, which is 110-off 8.5" x 11" pages per minute (ppm).

Coating systems for competitors' presses may run at half that speed and require off-line processes, dramatically reducing customer productivity, added Xerox.
