Xerox is waiting eagerly for the outcome of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision about the host city for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, expected later today.

The company has been involved as a partner of London 2012 since the start of the bidding process, with the company helping to print the city's bid document that ensured the UK capitol's short-listing as a potential host of the 2012 Games.

The 64-page full-colour initial application document was submitted to the IOC in January 2004 but was subject to a complex input and approval process from several parties.

The document was produced in both English and French and included the bid's initial thoughts and plans for a London Games in 2012.

Working closely with printer Pims, which produced the final document on its Xerox Docucolor iGen3 digital press, Xerox Global Services had to ensure that any last minute changes could be made and printed on demand to hit deadline dates.

John Hopwood, the UK director of Xerox Global Services, said: "Being flexible to react to the demands of preparing such an important document is something we are proud of.

This document could lead to London staging the most prestigious sporting event on earth and drawing thousands of visitors to these shores, so it has been an honour to be involved in such a crucial element of the London 2012 bid.

We are incredibly excited that after all these months of hard work, we are so close to hearing of a successful outcome for London." Phil Cherry, managing director of Pims, said that the group would not have been able to produce the document without the digital power of the Docucolor iGen3.

"Planning an important document such as the Applicant Questionnaire for London 2012 was a demanding print job and we needed to be able to change details at a moment's notice.

That would only be possible using the best colour digital printing press available, the Docucolor iGen3," he added.

Xerox contributed technology provision, consultancy and its document management tools and processes to the nomination process, because of its understanding the importance of documents to the success of the bid.

Xerox has been an Official Sponsor of the Olympic Games since 1964 and was involved at the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games with document publishing, processing and supplies.

Philip Beard, the director of corporate relations at London 2012, said that Xerox's involvement has been instrumental to the progress of the bid.

He continued: "We are busy working with venues and sporting bodies and federations to make the best of what London has to offer.

Our hard work then has to be collated and presented to the highest quality and this was expertly done by Xerox Global Services.".
