Xerox has its latest additions to its Docucolor range, aimed commercial quick print and in-house reproduction departments in colour work, to creatives in the design agency and marketing fields.
The Docucolor 240/250 are entry-level additions to Xerox's range and come with a choice of three stand-alone digital front ends - the EFI Fiery EXP250, the Creo Spire CX250 and the Xerox FreeFlow DXP250.
Each front end is aimed at a specific market segment within light production colour including - commercial print, pay-per-print and centralised reproduction departments (CRDs).
"With these products, Xerox strengthens its position as a key player in the high growth area.
The Docucolor 240/250 has the potential to significantly increase Xerox's share in the light production colour market," said Keith Kmetz, programme director of Hardcopy Research at IDC.
The DocuColor 240/250 systems are claimed by Xerox to provide advanced performance in a compact footprint that is more than 15 per cent smaller than competitors' products.
A proprietary 32-beam laser enables the printer to write data at a higher rate and provides a true 2,400 dots per inch (dpi) x 2,400dpi image.
Anoush Dowlatshahi-Gordon, director and general manager of the Production Group at Xerox UK, said: "We are committed to delivering the largest choice and highest quality portfolio of products, software, supplies and business support to our customers and partners in the market.
By virtue of its speed, page volume capacity and choice of EFI, Creo and DocuSP workflows, the Docucolor 240/250 truly bridges the gap between high-end office and light production and offers our office graphic arts customers a product that can be customised to meet their specific needs." Xerox believes that the DocuColor 240/250's space-saving design makes it suitable for customers, such as quick-print and graphic intensive offices.
It includes a standard paper capacity of 3,260 sheets of paper, which can be increased to 5,260 sheets.
The ability to handle a range of media (up to 300gsm and SRA3), along with finishing options, such as hole punching, sheet stackers and booklet makers, allows for the creation of menus, catalogues, newsletters and other creative material.
The Docucolor 240 operates at claimed speeds of 40 pages per minute (ppm) colour and 55ppm in mono.
The DocuColor 250 can print and copy at 50ppm colour and 65ppm mono.
The Docucolor 240 and 250 systems will be available from Xerox's direct sales force and through accredited Xerox resellers.
A fully configured machine costs in the region of £45,000.
