Xerox has unveiled the first results of a $400m investment to create the next-generation platform for black-and-white digital production printers, the Xerox DocuTech 100 and DocuTech 120 Copier/Printe
A number of Xerox partners and associate companies participated in the forum, including representatives from paper company Fedrigoni, coatings specialist Hanita Coatings and paperboard producer Stora Enso.
Xerox customers from around Europe included the French postal company Maileva and Dutch electronics giant Philips.
Attendees of the meeting were given a presentation on the new Xerox-Alphapicture portal, created by German direct marketing company and software developer i-clue.
It gives Xerox iGen3 users access to a unique image personalisation tool that can be used to personalise images for calendars, postcards, greetings cards and marketing literature.
The licence gives the iGen3 user access to a password-protected area of the portal, allowing them to order a variety of calendars, postcards and other applications using the unique image personalisation technology of Alphapicture.
All image personalised applications can be printed on the user's own iGen3 and own branding.
'The business concept is based on an Application Service Model.
'This means that iGen3 users do not need any knowledge, training or programming skills to use the unique Alphapicture technology,' said Kevin O'Donnell, marketing manager for iGen3 in the UK.
'This is by far the most impressive picture personalisation tool in the market.
'That is why we partner with i-clue'.
At the meeting, Xerox also announced the launch of a new online forum for iGen3 operators, in conjunction with Relate4U, a sister company of Dutch digital specialist, Paro Printing.
All Xerox iGen3 users can use the portal as a gateway to access articles, FAQs, and to enter chat rooms in which press operators can gain access to their own technical and problem solving community of digital press users.
Relate4U general manager Koen Luijten said: 'The site is a forum for the exchange of ideas between Xerox iGen3 operators.
'There is a huge amount of information available on how to operate these presses, but the key is being able to share that knowledge with the wider community.
'We know that this portal will further cement the relationship between Xerox and its customers, especially those who have already participated in the iGen3 User Group meetings'.
Valentin Govaerts, senior vice president, production, Xerox Europe, said: 'This Internet forum demonstrates the way we are building a network of digital press users, making it easier for them to make profit and grow their business.
'It was our promise last year at the first iGen3 User Group meeting that we would develop a web-based community of users.
'One year later, at the second iGen3 User Group meeting, we are delighted to be able to announce that we have brought this to fruition.
'I am sure that iGen3 users throughout the world will welcome this ability to share their information with each other'.
The Knowledge Centre Internet portal is password-protected and is available only to Xerox customers with immediate effect.
