Accrington (UK) print house, Academy Print, has invested in a Xerox 4110 printer supplied by Xerox premier partner, Express Print Solutions (EPS).

The Xerox 4110 is helping Academy Print to meet stringent and tight turn-around times for one of its largest digital print clients, as well as enabling the company to grow its range of digital services.

Nick Oakley, managing director of Academy Print, said: "Our Xerox 4110 was purchased to undertake a regular monthly print job for one of our larger customers, a major telecommunications company, which requires the rapid turn-around of 15,000 printed billing statements, each containing between four and eight pages, in just 48 hours each month.

Prior to installing the Xerox 4110, we had been using four digital printers from another manufacturer, which between them, were only just managing to deliver the job within the allocated timeframe." He explained further: "This one Xerox 4110 Printer is so impressive that it has taken over from all the other digital machines and has still drastically cut the turn-around time, completing this job in just eight hours.

The speed and consistency of this machine is quite simply outstanding." When Academy Print decided to buy a new mono printer to replace existing equipment, it did consider an extensive range of options including Oce, Canon and OKI, said Xerox.

However, it was already running a Xerox Docucolor 3535 digital colour press and had always been very impressed with the speed, quality and reliability of the 3535's technology, added the company.

The Xerox 4110 is claimed to offer simplex or duplex printing, a 2,400 dots per inch (dpi) x 2,400dpi print resolution, and an optical resolution of 600dpi x 600 dpi eight bit grey (256 shades).

It has a claimed print speed of up to 110 pages per minute and a dual-head scanner that scans up to 100 images per minute.

With a graphical interface designed for the 'walk-up' user, the Xerox 4110 also supports a range of finishing options including stapling, punching, Z/C/bi-fold/engineering Z-fold, tabs and cover insertions.

It also offers a range of additional services, such as a 'walk in' scan to disc service.

Oakley said that due to the reliability of the press, Academy Print has had little need for service and support following the installation.

However, on the couple of occasions it is needed to call upon EPS, it has always found the company to be responsive, turning up in just a couple of hours and fixing the problem straight away.

Concluded Oakley: "The market is highly competitive, so having a comprehensive mix of digital and litho presses is enabling us to meet the growing number of print-on-demand requirements.

Digital presses have been a great addition to our litho operation and having a 'foot in both camps' means we have a very strong business proposition and our customers can take advantage of the best-of-breed technologies, whether they be litho or digital, dependant on their requirements." Established 12 years ago Academy Print is a litho, design, mail and fulfilment house with growing digital operation that now incorporates Xerox colour and mono digital presses.

It offers a range of services from brochures, business cards, stationery and marketing material to multi-media design including websites.
