In a bid to improve productivity and profitability, commercial printer The Printing House has taken its first venture in to digital printing by installing a Xerox Docucolor 5000 printer.

The Printing House is now shaping to offer its customers the choice of personalised printing with quicker turn-around times than previously achieved Xerox said that as a mid-size business, The Printing House has worked with Xerox to grow its business, setting up a new digital printing arm and installing the Docucolor 5000

At the same time, The Printing House is utilising the XMPie software, which will help the company's customers create customised documents that open up new ways for them to communicate with the peole in their markets and increase response rates.

The Docucolor 5000 is said to be designed for print providers that average between 30,000 and 150,000 impressions per month.

It features claimed 2,400 x 2,400 dots per inch (dpi) print resolution and a 32-beam laser, rather than a typical two-beam laser, which is said to allow the press to scan more data faster and at a higher resolution.

It also offers tighter registration and a wider choice of colour management capabilities than light-production digital colour systems, added Xerox.

The press is designed to produce marketing brochures, posters and customised direct-mail pieces, for instance.

XMPie software is claimed to help graphic designers, marketing companies and print providers develop creative, customised marketing programmes that increase standard response rates and open up new ways for marketing professionals to communicate with their customers.

Peter Harrison, production director of The Printing House, explained: "The arrival of the Docucolor 5000 and XMPie software represents a new era.

The machine and software are easy to use, maintaining the high quality colour printing we have provided for more than 30 years, whilst addressing our customer's changing requirements.

In business terms this means that we can address our current business more effectively and strive to be successful in new markets." Peter Taylor, director and general manager of graphic arts at Xerox UK, commented: "The Printing House's decision to install the Docucolor 5000 is once again recognition of the advancements digital printing technology has made.

More than ever, digital printing is being considered by traditional printers alongside other methods and is offering commercial businesses the opportunity to be more productive and profitable.".
