Xerox's New Wide Format Printers For Indoor Print

A Xerox product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Dec 19, 2007

Two wide format printers for indoor graphics production have been introduced by Xerox as co-branded Xerox and Epson machines.

The new range consists of the Xerox-Epson Stylus Pro 7880 and 9880 printers, which the company said are suitable for proofing and point of sale material, where cost effective quality printing is important.

The range is claimed by Xerox to offer customers a variety of choices.

The Stylus Pro 7880 provides a 24-inch printing width with an eight-colour ink set.

The Stylus Pro 9880 offer the same choice of ink sets with a 44-inch printing width.

The Stylus Pro 7880 and 9880 use the latest Epson Ultrachrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta, which is said to further expand the colour gamut.

The new magenta ink is claimed to use new high-density pigments that create vibrant colours, especially blues and magenta, in addition to maintaining colour accuracy for neutral and dark colours, short-term colour stability and smooth tonal gradation from shadow to light.

The print heads in the Xerox range has Epson's Micro Piezo technology, which is said to control the amount of ink delivered to the media, resulting in finely detailed images.

Each colour has a double nozzle to give faster throughput and print speed.

Epson's variable-sized droplet technology is also claimed to automatically adjust the size of the ink droplet depending on the image content with smaller droplets used where fine detail is required and bigger droplets where larger blocks of colour are needed.

In addition the Micro Piezo inkjet head is permanent, so does not require periodic replacement, thereby improving reliability and reducing running costs, added Xerox.

Xerox added that it offers the printers along with the Caldera Rip, which is said to offer a range of features including, step and repeat, nesting, tiling and cost proof.

According to the company cost proof allows users to know the cost of a print before committing it to paper, whilst the Rip, combined with the Epson print technology, provides affordable ink usage.

For customers that do not require photographic quality work Xerox announced the 7,142-colour CAD ink jet printer.

The 42-inch Xerox 7142, also available with the Caldera Rip as an option, is designed for the CAD and GIS market where high speed and cost effective printing are important, added the company.

Frederic Maupoume, the wide format marketing manager of Xerox UK, said: "This expansion of our wide-format portfolio allows us to offer the best systems for our customers enabling them to address the highest quality graphic applications.

This is strong evidence of our continuing commitment to grow our wide format range in areas requested by our customers.".
