Two Xerox production printers have been awarded best in their class prizes in the 2008 European Digital Press (EDP) Association Awards.

The Nuvera 288 digital perfecting system won the prize for the best production cut-sheet monochrome printer of the year The EDP Association said that the award for the Nuvera 288 was based on the product's speed and high production, image quality and the Pass Through Programming feature

A fully integrated, tandem engine architecture makes the Nuvera 288 run two-sided prints with image quality equivalent to offset printing standards, claimed the company.

The system is said to be able to produce books, catalogues, bills, statements and other graphic-intensive documents at 288 duplex impressions per minute (144 two-sided pages).

Xerox said that its Pass Through Programming, which keeps the Nuvera 288 DPS running even if one of the engines is stopped and that provides continued productivity and uptime for commercial print operations and in-house printing facilities.

The 650/1300 won the prize for best web-fed production monochrome printer.

The EDP Association commented that the award was based on the machine's capability of combining speed, ease-of-use and workflow productivity, as well as for its three printing technologies, including flash-fusing.

The system is said to be Xerox's fastest continuous feed printing system that helps print providers capitalise on the high-speed, high-volume monochrome printing market.

The new is claimed to make it easier to produce books, manuals and trans-promotional direct mail applications.

The 650/1300 is claimed to print up to 1,232 duplex A4 images per minute.

It uses dry toner, xerographic imaging and flash-fusing technology, which is a process that does not use heat or pressure, or make contact with the paper, allowing the device to print on a wider array of substrates than other systems on the market.

Both devices will be featured by Xerox at the Drupa 2008 exhibition from May 29 - June 11.

Valentin Govaerts, senior vice president of production and the graphics arts industry at Xerox Europe, said: "These awards are an endorsement of our continuing leadership in digital printing innovation and our commitment to provide customers with the right technology, the right workflow and the right business model.".
