The new YUPO envelopes exhibit superior smoothness, extreme durability and resistance to water, chemicals, tearing and dirt.

The envelopes are offered in opaque 78lb stock in 6 x 9, 9 x 12 and 10 x 13 and translucent 68lb stock in 6 x 9 and 9 x 12.

They are said to be suitable for event planners, specialty printers and direct mailers.

The envelopes feature peel-and-stick adhesive for secure closure and are available in 500 count boxes.

Yupo translucent and opaque envelopes are claimed to be the only premium synthetic paper envelopes currently available on the market.

The company said that the envelopes lend importance to their contents, with their premium feel distinguishing them from everything else in the mailbox.

Paul Mitcham, the national marketing manager for Yupo, said: "The envelopes entice the recipient to discover what lies inside.

The envelopes are extremely durable and prevent ripping and the super-smooth feel begs to be touched." In addition, the see-through quality of the translucent envelopes showcases the contents inside and awakens curiosity, he added.

Direct marketers and brand managers can also benefit from the qualities of the envelopes.

Direct mail is a $22 billion industry in the USA alone and yet direct mail pieces receive an approximate two per cent response rate, said the company.

Yupo believes that the envelope does not simply transport the promotional material but it can help drive and deliver the brand owner's message directly to the customer in a way no other envelope can through visual and tactile appeal as well as recipient interaction.

Mitcham added: "It is a natural progression that Yupo is the first synthetic paper manufacturer to produce envelopes.
