Fast and simple integration of on-demand bar code label printing is now available for manufacturing and supply chain system applications claimed Zebra Technologies.
The new extensible mark-up language (XML) enabled XiIIIPlus printers from global barcoding specialist Zebra, have been designed to meet the increasing demand from customers for more flexible information identification when openly exchanging data, said the company.
Rod Rodericks, managing director of Zebra UK, said: "XML is quickly becoming the standard for business-to-business and application-to-application transactions, and is gaining use in EDI, ERP, and manufacturing systems.
These applications are driving the need for a simple, efficient interface to on-demand printers.
By adopting our XML-enabled printers companies can eliminate or reduce costs for middleware, licensing, print server hardware, administration and programming." With XML fast becoming the standard for enterprise software, enabling XML on Zebra's high-performance printers was a natural evolution for the company.
As diverse business processes become more integrated, open systems become increasingly important for the efficient exchange of data across technology platforms, he added.
Zebra's XML-enabled printers were developed in collaboration with Oracle to allow printing directly from Oracle's Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Mobile Supply Chain Applications (MSCA).
However, they can also be integrated with a variety of enterprise systems with minimal customisation, said Zebra.
The printers are claimed to be the only Oracle-certified WMS and MSCA printer hardware solutions currently available.
Jon Chorley, senior director at Oracle Inventory and WMS, said: "Oracle WMS and MSCA provide comprehensive capabilities for shop-floor and warehouse mobile workers, which includes the need to generate and scan bar code labels.
We're pleased to partner with Zebra on the certification of their XML-enabled printers with our applications.
This innovative hardware provides our customers with an excellent option to efficiently generate labels on demand, without requiring additional hardware and middleware." Zebra Technologies is a partner in the Oracle partner network.
